More than a third of under 17s
on ASBOs diagnosed with mental illness or learning difficulty, study
claims
November 14, 2005
More than a third of under 17s
issued with antisocial behaviour orders (ASBOs) have been diagnosed
with a mental illness or learning difficulty, a survey claims.
The survey was of 54 youth offending
teams by the British Institute for Brain Injured Children which
is treating its findings as 'indicators' before having them independently
verified.
The survey found most children with
ASBOs have been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
(ADHD), while others have depression-related difficulties, conduct
disorders and Tourette's Syndrome.
